A few months ago, I was delivered the sad news that our beloved garage door was... (pause for effect) ...dying. It was looking a little run down- peeling paint, chipped corners. What it needed was some TLC, some very, very unique TLC, which fortunately I happen to specialise in. And so my "Make the Garage Beautiful" project was born. The door got a fresh paint, the pattern was stenciled on and then I painted it. And guess what-the garage door is still alive and working! I guess you could say that in changing my world I also saved a life! Now passers by stop for a second when they pass by my house. It is a change from the usual project homes popping up all over Sydney- you couldn't find this one in a catalogue.
I love patterns and their simple lines can completely transform a surface when repeated. They are simple but complex at the same time and I find them mesmerizing to look at. I wanted to create a place where I could experience this every day. I love seeing the change process that is usually so gradual sped up into a few seconds to make it feel as though you can experience hours in a few seconds, which is why I made my artwork in GIF form.
